Second Suspect in Weekend Shooting Taken into Custody

ALBUQUERQUE – APD officers took a second suspect into custody on Sunday following his involvement in a shooting in Downtown Albuquerque.

APD downtown officers responded to a shooting around midnight on Saturday after hearing multiple gunshots and receiving a shot spotter activation. Officers headed towards Central Avenue and 4th Street when they came into contact with multiple individuals running eastbound on Central Ave. Officers detained Zane Katzenberger, 18, after observing a handgun in his waistband. Katzenberger explained to officers that he was highly intoxicated.

Video footage of the shooting was turned over to police that was circulating around social media. In the video footage, it appeared that Katzenberger was one of two individuals who was pointing a firearm and shooting toward a crowd of people. Katzenberger was seen running away from the scene of the shooting eastbound on Central Avenue. He was later taken into custody and booked into the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center on the following charges:

  • Aggravated Battery x2
  • Negligent use of a deadly weapon
  • Unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon

On Sunday afternoon, officers were dispatched to an address in the 12000 block of Academy Road after Andre Jaramillo contacted dispatch and advised he was one of the shooters from the shooting that had occurred downtown on Saturday night. A search warrant was executed on the apartment where Jaramillo was located and two firearms were located inside. Jaramillo was taken into custody and booked into the Bernalillo County Juvenile Detention Center on the following charges:

  • Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon
  • Negligent use of a deadly weapon
  • Brandishing of a firearm
  • Unlawful possession of a handgun by a person
