The Albuquerque Police Department today arrested homicide suspect Richard Young as part of Operation Turn the Tide. He was arrested in a stolen vehicle.

Young, 43 of Los Lunas, was wanted on a murder charge for the Aug. 19 fatal stabbing of Patrick Amaral, 40, at 511 Bridge Blvd. S.W.

“This is another example of a violent offender committing a property crime while on the run from police,” Chief Harold Medina said. “I’m glad we have him in custody so he is not a threat to the public.”

Homicide detectives determined Young tracked Amaral down the night of the incident and stabbed him because he believed Amaral stole his gun.

Young is charged with an open count of murder. He is being booked into the Metro Detention Center.
