Murder suspect Qiaunt Kelley charged for second shooting
July 18, 2022
ALBUQUERQUE – Murder suspect, Qiaunt Kelley, now faces charges for a separate shooting that occurred just days before he is accused of killing a man.
A judge approved an arrest warrant today that charges Kelley, 27, with the June 20, 2022, shooting of Ezekial Tenorio at 641 Charleston St., S.E. Tenorio survived the shooting and was treated at the hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg.
Kelley is already in jail facing a murder charge for the June 25, 2022, shooting death of Leonard Fresquez in the area of 436 Grove St., S.E. The two shootings were within a week of each other, and occurred in the same Southeast neighborhood.
Detectives were searching for Kelley in the days following the shootings so they could attempt to question him about the incidents, as well as an officer-involved shooting in May.
Kelley was arrested July 7 after a standoff with SWAT teams in Southeast Albuquerque that resulted in a house fire and the death of a 15-year-old boy who was with Kelley.
Following his arrest, detectives were able to gather enough evidence to charge him for the homicide. The separate investigation into the shooting of Tenorio moved forward after Kelley was positively identified as the shooter.
Kelley is charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly weapon and Tampering with evidence.
