ALBUQUERQUE – The Multi-Agency Task Force is investigating an officer-involved shooting that critically injured a suspect in an ongoing investigation by APD’s auto theft unit.

Four APD officers fired shots at the armed individual shortly before 3:30 p.m. after a foot chase through a parking lot and into an alley off Central Ave., just east of 98th St., N.W. The adult male was struck several times and transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The handgun that man had in his possession was recovered at the scene.

No officers were injured during the shooting.

Over the next several months, APD will continue to investigate and analyze this incident. Detectives will continue interviewing any new witnesses that come forward and complete any forensic tests. After the investigation is complete, APD’s Force Review Board will forward the findings to the Superintendent of Police Reform to determine if this incident met the high standards of the Albuquerque Police Department. The Multi-Agency Task Force will forward its case to the District Attorney’s Office to make any determination of criminal charges.
