APD solves 2023 murder case, arrests suspect

Homicide arrest
January 21, 2024

ALBUQUERQUE – APD officers arrested Andrew Ramirez on Saturday after identifying him as the suspect in the November 2023 murder of Freddie Litton in Southeast Albuquerque.

Litton, 41, was fatally shot as he walked near a building at 220 Charleston St., N.E. just before midnight on Nov. 12, 2023. Surveillance video shows Litton being chased by another man holding a black handgun. The suspect used both hands to point the gun at Litton and a gunshot is heard. The suspect shot a second time while running after Litton, who drops the gun. The suspect can be seen yelling at Litton, as he manipulated the gun, stopped to pick something up, and fired another shot toward the ground where Litton was laying.

A Crime Stoppers bulletin was publicized in November 2023 with an image of a man believed to be the suspect. Homicide detectives determined the identity of the suspect was Andrew Ramirez.

The APD field officer who initially responded to the shooting in November spotted Ramirez on Saturday and took him into custody. Detectives interviewed Ramirez, who admitted he was the person in the photo that was distributed in the Crime Stoppers notice. He denied he shot Litton.

Ramirez was charged on Saturday with an open count of murder and booked into the Metro Detention Center.
