APD releases Duke City Case Files: Episode 3 on one-year anniversary

This episode features the homicide of Daniel Collins

Aug. 21, 2021

The Albuquerque Police Department has released the third episode of the ‘Duke City Case Files’ featuring the homicide of 35 year-old Daniel Collins which occurred one year ago today.

Daniel Collins was found in the street on Buena Ventura between Shirley St. and Maxine on August 21, 2020. Collins was walking his bike when the suspects pulled up next to him and shot him. The pick-up truck was located and detectives have persons of interest but need more information from people the offenders may have spoken to or confided in about the crime.

“Daniel had a lot of pride in anything he did he was very meticulous,” said Alice Collins, Daniel’s mother. “He was very kind, very giving, he would stop and help anybody who needed help, he was a lovely person he didn’t deserve to lose his life at 35.”

“They didn’t know Daniel, they had no reason to kill Daniel, and they just did,” said Sgt. Terra Juarez, who has been investigating the case. “It was a crime of opportunity and that’s really scary because they can continue to do that in the future.”

If anyone has tips about this case, they are encouraged to contact APD’s Homicide Unit at (505)-924-6096, or tips can be left anonymously with Albuquerque Metro Crime Stoppers at (505)-843-STOP, or on their website, p3tips.com/531.

‘Duke City Case Files’ features unsolved homicides, successful solved cases, and investigative tools being used to advance cases. The videos are uploaded to APD’s social media platforms at the beginning of each month, and we encourage you to share them with your viewers to help garner leads.
