APD posts weekly homicide update

ALBUQUERQUE – APD posted its weekly homicide update, which reflects a 22% decrease in the number of homicide victims for 2023, as compared to the same time period in 2022.

APD has investigated 81 cases involving 85 homicide victims, which the FBI considers non-negligent murders, through Oct. 27, 2023. There were 109 homicide victims at this time in 2022.

APD detectives have solved 68 homicide cases this year and identified 100 murder suspects who have been charged, arrested or they are deceased. The breakdown of solved cases and arrests is as follows:

2023 Homicide cases

  • 46 cases solved and 59 suspects charged, arrested or deceased

2022 Homicide cases

  • 7 cases solved in 2023 and 11 suspects charged or arrested
  • 7 suspects charged in 2023 from cases solved in 2022

2021 Homicide cases

  • 8 cases solved in 2023 and 11 suspects charged or arrested
  • 1 suspect charged in 2023 from a case solved in 2021

2020 Homicide cases

  • 3 cases solved in 2023 and 4 suspects charged or arrested
  • 3 suspects charged in 2023 from a case solved in 2020

2019 Homicide Cases

  • 1 case solved in 2023 and 1 suspect arrested

2018 Homicide case

  • 1 case solved in 2023 and 1 suspect charged

2017 Homicide cases

  • 2 cases solved in 2023 and 2 suspects arrested
