APD Makes Two Separate Arrests Following Large Drug and Firearm Seizures

The Albuquerque Police Department made two successful arrests following large seizures of drugs and firearms.

ALBUQUERQUE – The Albuquerque Police Department made two successful arrests following large seizures of drugs and firearms.

On July 21, 2022 officers with Southeast PRT observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Texas Street and Copper Avenue N.E. Officers performed a traffic stop and noticed a firearm inside the vehicle. The suspect admitted he was a convicted felon and the vehicle was sealed pending a search warrant.

Timothy Carrera was charged with trafficking a controlled substance(x2), Felon in possession (x2), receiving/transferring stolen property (x2). Timothy is in custody at MDC pending original charge of felon in possession of a firearm.

The search warrant was executed and the following items were seized:

  • 3 Firearms, 1 handgun was reported stolen
  • 2 suppressors, 1 stolen
  • 1 pistol to rifle conversion
  • 1 Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office Badge 
  • 7,106 Fentanyl pills, which is approximately a street value of $50,000
  • 36 grams of Meth
  • $13,584 in cash      

In a separate unrelated incident on July 27, 2022, a detective with Albuquerque Police received information that an individual identified as Valentina Martinez had learned of her charges for an aggravated assault against a family member and began to threaten that relative.  Eastside Impact and Detectives with Investigative Services responded to successfully extract the family from their residence.  ISU located Martinez at a location along Vassar S.E. and arrested her.  Eastside Impact Detectives completed the search for her apartment and found narcotics, narcotic paraphernalia, narcotic equipment and ammunition. 

During further search warrants the following items were seized:

  • 1 firearm
  • Ammunition
  • $14,000 in cash
  • 7,500 fentanyl pills

Detectives are requesting a warrant for felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. This case is being sent to the U.S. Attorney's Office for review. 

Valentina Martinez was booked into MDC on her outstanding warrant.
