APD Investigating Serious-Injury Crash

ALBUQUERQUE – Officers responded Saturday about 11:20 p.m. to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at Central Ave NE and the San Mateo Blvd NE. The driver fled the scene southbound after hitting a pedestrian who sustained critical injures and was transported to the hospital. The pedestrian remains in unstable condition.

 

UPDATE:

 

The Traffic unit responded to a serious injury crash at the intersection of San Mateo and Central NE. Upon arrival Traffic officers learned a female had been struck by a dark SUV traveling Southbound on San Mateo. A witness stated the dark colored SUV was traveling in the middle lane when it struck the female. The witness stated the SUV stopped south of the intersection next to the bus stop. The witness stated the vehicle only stopped for a second or two before it continued south on San Mateo leaving the area. The on scene officers were advised the female was transported to UNMH for her injuries. Officers were advised the female was intubated and rushed into surgery for internal bleeding. After surgery the female was sent to ICU and is still listed in critical condition. At this time it is unknown if speed or alcohol were contributing factors. This investigation is ongoing.
