APD investigating gunshots directed at home of legislative leader

Sixth Shooting possibly targeting local leaders.

Jan. 9, 2023

APD detectives are investigating a report of gunshots fired last month toward the home of Javier Martinez, the incoming Speaker of the New Mexico House of Representatives.

Rep. Martinez inspected his home following reports last week of gunshots fired toward the homes of other local lawmakers. He discovered damage presumably from gunfire heard in early December outside his Albuquerque home. APD detectives went to the home and located evidence of a shooting.

Nobody was injured in the shootings reported by local lawmakers, which occurred in December and early January.

“Our detectives are working hard to get to the bottom of these shootings,” APD Chief Harold Medina said. “We have identified potential connections between some of the shootings, and detectives are pursuing every possible leads.”

Anyone with information about any of the shootings is asked to call police at 505-242-COPS or Crime Stoppers at 505-843-STOP.
