APD Investigating fatal crash involving pedestrian

ALBUQUERQUE – The Albuquerque Police Department’s Motor Unit is currently investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian.

On September 30, 2021 at approximately 4:00a.m. officers were called to a crash located at Girard Boulevard SE and Vail Avenue SE. During the investigation, it was learned a pedestrian was crossing Girard from west to east near the intersection of Vail SE. A gray older model sedan was traveling northbound on Girard SE. The gray sedan crashed into the pedestrian causing significant injuries.

The driver of the gray sedan fled the scene northbound from the crash. The pedestrian was declared deceased on scene. This investigation is ongoing. It is unknown at this time if speed was a factor for the crash. It is also unknown if alcohol was a factor for the crash.
