APD investigating critical-injury crash

ALBUQUERQUE – APD is investigating a crash involving a truck that struck two pedestrians near a group of unhoused individuals at 1st St. and Arvada Ave., N.W. One person was critically injured and a second victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers responded shortly before 11 a.m. to call about the crash.

Investigators determined that a white Dodge Ram was traveling northbound and drove into the east curb of 1st St and Arvada. The driver drove the vehicle onto the sidewalk, striking a pedestrian. The vehicle then swerved off the sidewalk into the second pedestrian. The vehicle struck the northwest corner of the intersection and then fled the area west on Arvada and then north on 2nd St NW, not stopping at the stop sign or traffic. The vehicle was last seen north on 2nd St passing Menaul Blvd NW.

The two pedestrians were transported to UNM Hospital. The first pedestrian suffered a broken arm. The second pedestrian is in critical condition.

Evidence on scene identifies the truck as a white 1991 - 2001 model Dodge Ram 1500 with a black headache rack. The passenger front headlight is broken out.
