ALBUQUERQUE – Albuquerque Police Department Chief Harold Medina is urging hit and run offender Sergio Almanza to turn himself in.

On Wednesday December 29, Chief Medina recorded a message with a personal plea to Almanza as he has now been on the run for more than two weeks.

On December 12, 2021, Almanza was driving an illegal off-road vehicle at Central Avenue and Tingley Drive when he ran a red light, striking 7 year-old Pronoy Bhattacharya and his father, killing the little boy.

“Mr. Almanza, my message to you is this, we’ve reviewed your social media, we know you too have young children, we know you love your young children, and we’re asking you to do the right thing,” said Chief Harold Medina. “You’re reckless actions caused a young child to lose their life, and the parents would like to see justice, just as you would if someone hurt one of your children.”

Chief Medina along with the Albuquerque Police Department is asking anyone who may have information about Mr. Almanza’s whereabouts, to contact Crime Stoppers at 843-STOP or on their website.  Any piece of information could be helpful, no matter how small.

Here you will find a brief video message from Chief Medina.
