APD charging woman for fatal, overnight crash into bicycle rider

ALBUQUERQUE – APD’s Motors Unit is charging a woman with vehicular homicide DWI for an overnight crash the resulted in the death of a man who was riding a bicycle on Gibson Blvd. S.E.

Investigators were called out early this morning at 1:24 a.m. to a traffic crash at the intersection of Gibson Blvd. and Yale Blvd., S.E. A gray 2015 Chevrolet Silverado was driving west bound on Gibson Blvd. and ran over a male on a bicycle that was also traveling westbound on Gibson Blvd. in the middle lane. The gray Chevrolet vehicle fled the scene.

The bicyclist suffered major injuries and died on scene. Investigators learned from a relative of the driver that she crashed into someone. The female driver, later identified as Leann Grace Blackhorse, 23, was driving to Gallup. APD notified Gallup Police and Blackhorse was taken into custody.

APD investigators determined driver inattention and intoxication were contributing factors for this crash. Blackhorse will be charged with vehicular homicide DWI and leaving scene of accident great bodily harm and or death.
