APD Arrests Suspect in Overnight Homicide

ALBUQUERQUE – APD detectives arrested 38-year-old Patrick Saavedra this morning for the overnight murder of a man in Downtown Albuquerque.
Saavedra is accused of threatening Albuquerque Metro Security guards with a gun around Midnight in the area of 1st Street and Gold Ave. S.W. A bystander stepped up to Saavedra’s truck and told him to leave the officers alone. Saavedra allegedly shot the bystander in the chest and fled the scene in a white truck.
The bystander was transported to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries. He has not yet been positively identified.
Security guards and other witnesses were able to help APD officers identify the truck and the offender, who was tracked to a residence in Southwest Albuquerque. Saavedra was taken into custody at the home about 7:40 a.m.
Saavedra will be booked in to the Metro Detention Center on an open count of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
