ALBUQUERQUE – Juan Delarosa was arrested late Wednesday and charged for the July 4, 2023, murder of Alfonso Aguilar during a carjacking in Southeast Albuquerque.

The U.S. Marshal Service arrested Delarosa, 21, on the murder charge. Following the arrest, APD homicide detectives interviewed Delarosa, who admitted to his role in the shooting death.

Delarosa was booked overnight into the Metro Detention Center on an open count of murder, armed robbery, conspiracy, shooting at or from a motor vehicle (resulting in death), and tampering with evidence.

Aguilar was able to talk briefly to detectives shortly after the shooting on July 4 in the parking lot of a hotel at 6718 Central Ave., S.E. Aguilar said he was sitting in his vehicle when a male approached him and asked for cigarettes. After telling the man, “no,” the man ordered Aguilar to get out of the truck and pulled out a gun. Aguilar said he exited his truck and the man sat in the driver’s seat. Two other people got into the truck and the man attempted to drive away. Aguilar said he grabbed onto the driver’s door of the truck and he was shot in the chest.

Aguilar was transported to the hospital. He died four days later as a result of his gunshot wound.

Officers located the stolen vehicle on July 7 at 3802 2nd St NW. A handgun was found in the vehicle when a search warrant was executed.
