ALBUQUERQUE -- APD detectives arrested 18-year-old Christopher Valencia and charged him for Wednesday night’s murder of 20-year-old Ryan Costello.

Officers were dispatched Wednesday around 5:30 p.m. to a shooting at the Premier Gas Station located at 1734 Juan Tabo Blvd. N.E. Officers located a male, later identified as Costello, who suffered from gunshot wounds. Costello was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives learned that Valencia and Costello knew each other, and they were involved in an argument at the gas station about a handgun Valencia had with him. Valencia later told police he used the handgun to shoot Costello because he believed Costello was going to try to take it from him.

Valencia was booked into the Metro Detention Center early this morning. He is charged with an open count of murder.
