APD arrests man who shot at officers, searching for driver of vehicle

ALBUQUERQUE – APD officers arrested a suspect who fired several shots at field officers during a vehicle pursuit overnight. Detectives are searching for the driver of the vehicle involved in the shooting.

 

Officers were dispatched at 2 a.m. today to 1201 Legion NE, near Lomas Blvd. and I-25, to respond to a 911 call about someone shooting at a security guard in the area. 

 

Officers responded and pursued the suspect vehicle when the passenger oriented his body outside the moving vehicle and discharged a firearm several times. The passenger pointed the firearm directly at officers during the pursuit.

 

The passenger, later identified as Jose Moreno, exited the vehicle and was taken into custody. Moreno is charged with Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Negligent use of a deadly weapon, and Eluding/Evading Police (On foot).

 

The pursuit continued until the vehicle came to a stop near Zuni Rd. and Indiana St., N.E., where the driver exited on foot.  The driver is still outstanding and unidentified.
