APD Arrests Man Who Fired at Officers after Stealing Bait Car

The Albuquerque Police Department has arrested Christian Wood, 26, who fired at APD officers after stealing and attempting to dismantle a city-owned bait vehicle.

ALBUQUERQUE – The Albuquerque Police Department has arrested Christian Wood, 26, who fired at APD officers after stealing and attempting to dismantle a city-owned bait vehicle.

On January 21, 2023 Wood stole an APD bait car in the area of Gibson and Yale. Wood is known to Auto Theft Detectives as a repeat auto theft offender with violent tendencies and multiple outstanding felony warrants.

Wood, who had 14 outstanding felony warrants, along with two other suspects on the night of the 21st, drove to the area of 1200 Dickerson where he made attempts to dismantle the bait car. While at that location, Wood stole another vehicle and fled the area.

As detectives were able to track that vehicle down, at the intersection of Copper and San Mateo, Wood pointed a black firearm at detectives and fired one shot.

On the afternoon of February 2nd, 2023, Detectives with the Investigative Services Division along with Tactical officers located Wood barricaded in a residence at 3304 Delamar Avenue N.E. As officers made contact with Wood, he was armed with a firearm but was safely taken into custody.

A female was also taken into custody at the property for an outstanding warrant related to an auto theft case.

As another stolen vehicle was located at the property along Delamar, detectives are working on additional auto theft charges.

Woods is currently charged with Unlawful taking of a Motor Vehicle X2, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Aggravated Fleeing among other charges.
