ALBUQUERQUE – APD officers arrested 31-year-old Gregory Cordova after he fled a traffic stop while driving an ATV recklessly on Central Ave. near Yale Blvd.

Officers in the University Area Command saw the ATV around 8:30 p.m. on Friday. The driver was doing wheelies and driving recklessly in the ART bus lane. There was heavy vehicle and foot traffic in the area.

Officers requested support from the APD helicopter and attempted a traffic stop. The driver of the ATV and two drivers on motorcycles fled the area at a high rate of speed. The officer disengaged and APD’s helicopter followed the ATV and motorcycles as they headed westbound toward Downtown.

The ATV eventually crashed in the 6200 block of Gonzalez Rd., S.W. after striking three vehicles. The driver of the ATV, later identified as Cordova, jumped onto one of the motorcycles that also fled from police. He was dropped off at an arroyo and ran to a nearby home. Officers arrived and arrested Cordova.

Cordova was transported to a hospital to be treated for injuries related to the crash. He was later released and booked into the Metro Detention Center add charged with reckless driving, aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer, and three counts of failure to stop upon striking an unattended vehicle.
