ALBUQUERQUE – APD homicide detectives arrested Nicholas James Dee, 39, and charged him for the murder of an unidentified homeless man outside of a truck wash on the far west side of Albuquerque on Thursday.

Officer in the Southwest Area Command responded to reports of a shooting on Thursday at 1:17 p.m. When they arrived at 9911 Avalon Rd., N.W., they located an adult male who was deceased. Investigators determined the man had been shot in the neck.

Detectives watched surveillance video of the shooting and interviewed Dee and several witnesses. They determined that Dee, who worked at the truck wash, approached a group of individuals on a public street when a verbal altercation quickly took place. A male sitting on the curb of Leonidas Ln., N.W., south of Avalon, stood up and punched Dee in his face. Dee responded by grabbing his gun and shooting the male who punched him. The shooting victim was not armed with a weapon. Video also showed Dee chasing the victim and continuing to shoot.

The victim collapsed and a bystander attempted life-saving measures. But he died as a result of the gunshot wound.

Dee was booked into the Metro Detention Center on a charge of 2nd Degree Murder.
