APD arrests man for murder of father

ALBUQUERQUE – APD homicide detectives charged Abelito Rivera, Jr., for the murder of his father, Abelito Rivera, Sr.

Officers responded today about 9:50 a.m. to a neighbor who reported Rivera, Jr., pulled his father, who was apparently deceased, out of the home and covered him with dirt. Rivera Jr., allegedly killed his father sometime prior to the neighbor’s 911 call.

Officers attempted to interview Rivera, Jr., who was incoherent. Rivera, Jr. cried and stated, “I hurt my dad.”

The Office of the Medical Investigator reported to detectives Rivera, Jr., suffered from extensive blunt force trauma.

Rivera, Jr., is charged with an open count of murder. He is being booked into the Metro Detention Center.
