ALBUQUERQUE – APD homicide detectives arrested Mark Sigler overnight for Friday’s murder of a man in a truck at a park in Northeast Albuquerque.

The victim has not yet been positively identified. We ask that the name used in the arrest warrant be withheld until his identification is verified.

Sigler, 47, is accused of shooting the victim in the head around 8:30 a.m. while the victim sat in a red pickup truck that was parked at Taylor Park, located at 7701 Indian School Rd., N.E.

Sigler was taken into custody late Friday following a SWAT activation at a home on Hoffman Drive N.E., which is around the corner from the scene of the murder. Officers also executed search warrants at the home, where the victim once lived with Sigler and other roommates.

During an interview with detectives, Sigler at first said he was working all day and did not see the victim or go to the park. However, when presented with surveillance video that showed his van leaving the park immediately after the shooting, Sigler said he stopped at the park when he saw the victim’s red truck. Sigler said he stopped next to the truck and saw the victim sleeping inside. Sigler said he honked his horn, then got out and walked to the truck, which had its window rolled up. Sigler said he knocked on the window, but the victim was still sleeping. Sigler said he left the area after that.

Detectives worked through the day and night and learned through investigation that Sigler and the victim had previous disputes and confrontations. According to surveillance video and neighbors near the park, Sigler’s blue van was the only other vehicle near the red truck at the time of the shooting.

Sigler is charged with an open count of murder. He will be booked into the Metro Detention Center.
