Homicide Arrest
December 08, 2023

APD homicide detectives were informed that an Albuquerque murder suspect was apprehended as he attempted to enter the U.S. at the Santa Teresa port of entry.

Andrew Maya, 32, was wanted for the Jan. 7, 2023, murder of Jason Fuentes outside a Downtown bar. He was arrested Wednesday by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers on the murder warrant.

APD detectives charged Maya in January for fatally stabbing Fuentes, 23, inside the Distillery Bar, located at 406 Central Ave. S.W. The two men were involved in a fight on the night of Jan. 7, and security at the bar used pepper spray to break up the fight.

Shortly after that, the confrontation continued outside the bar. At one point, Maya allegedly stabbed Fuentes, according to video surveillance. Fuentes died at the scene.

Maya fled the scene on a motorcycle. Police identified Maya from the video surveillance. He also dropped his wallet at the bar during the fight.

Maya is charged with an open count of murder.
