February 14, 2024

ALBUQUERQUE – APD detectives charged Nathan Henson, who is currently incarcerated in Oklahoma, for the 2020 murder of Nehemiah Lovato at the Valencia Court Apartments.

Henson, 31, is accused of fatally shooting Lovato on Oct. 25, 2020, at the apartment complex located at 200 Valencia Dr., S.E.

Surveillance video showed Henson appear to pull out a firearm and point it at Lovato while a second individual grabs Lovato’s backpack. During a brief struggle for the bag, one shot is fired, striking Lovato. He fell to the ground. Police arrived shortly after and determined Lovato died as a result of his wound.

Detectives identified Henson after comparing images in the video surveillance from the night of the shooting, as well as video from an incident on Sept. 17, 2020 at the same apartment complex, where Henson was stabbed.

Detectives recently identified other individuals from the night of the shooting.

Henson was arrested on a felony charge in November 2023 in Oklahoma. He is also wanted for absconding from parole in New Mexico for a felony in 2016. He is currently awaiting extradition to New Mexico.

Now, he faces new charges of First Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
