APD arrests couple for homicide at NE apartment complex

Nov. 10, 2022

APD detectives arrested Emery Gallegos and Savannah Davis on Wednesday and charged the couple with the September murder of William Lee Vencill.

Gallegos and Davis, both 19, are accused of killing 65-year-old Vencill because of a dispute over a parking spot at the Northeast Heights apartment complex where they lived.

Police were called to the Mission Hills apartment complex, located at 10000 Menaul Blvd. N.E., shortly before 2 a.m. on Sept. 15, 2022. Vencill was found deceased in his car with a gunshot wound on the right side of his neck.

Homicide detectives used surveillance video and other investigative methods to identify Gallegos and Davis. They were taken into custody on Wednesday at a bowling alley where Gallegos worked.

During interviews, Gallegos and Davis told detectives they were concerned with Vencill parking near their apartment and confronted him as he was looking for a parking spot. Vencill attempted to back away from the pair but Davis stood behind the vehicle to prevent the Vencill from leaving. Vencill was able to leave in his vehicle and as he was leaving, Gallegos stated he “shot through the back passenger window to scare him.” Vencill was struck with a single round.

Gallegos and Davis will be booked into Metro Detention Center on open counts of murder and tampering with evidence.
