Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023

ALBUQUERQUE – The suspect accused of killing a homeless man last October in Southeast Albuquerque was arrested Wednesday by the U.S. Marshals Service in California.

APD Homicide detectives charged Brandon Chatmon, 20, for the Oct. 27, 2022, shooting death of Vincent Lopez outside of the Wingstop restaurant, located at 5555 Zuni Rd., S.E. Witnesses said Lopez was known to panhandle in the area and had approached Chatmon at his car after Chatmon picked up a meal delivery.

According to video surveillance, Chatmon fired his gun, striking Lopez. Chatmon then fired four more shots at Lopez as he lay on the ground.

Detective issues a warrant for Chatmon’s arrest in November, and learned that he fled to California. The California Marshal Marshals Task Force located and arrested Chatmon Wednesday in the Long Beach, CA area.
