City of Albuquerque Launches Yard Sign Awareness Campaign Ahead of Election

Five tips for when, where, and how campaign signs should be displayed.

September 18, 2025

The City Clerk’s Office and Planning Department are launching a joint outreach campaign, #SignSmartABQ, to help residents and campaigns understand the rules for temporary yard signs ahead of the upcoming election.

Starting September 5, 2025, the campaign communicates easy-to-follow guidance on timing, placement, size, condition, and removal.

“Yard signs are a part of every election,” said City Clerk Ethan Watson. “With these reminders, we’re taking the guesswork out of where they can go and making sure enforcement is consistent across the city.”

Five Tips for Compliant Yard Signs:

  1. Timing – Signs may be posted from September 5, 2025, up to 10 days after Election Day (November 14).
  2. Where Not to Place Them – Not allowed in medians, sidewalks, public poles, parks, bridges, or the clear-sight areas at intersections.
  3. Where You Can Place Signs – On private property, and only with the owner’s permission.
  4. Size & Quantity Limits – One sign per property; no taller than 4 ft. above a wall, or 8 ft. total without a wall; total signage area must not exceed 16 sq. ft.
  5. Keep It Clean & Timely – Maintain your sign in good condition and remove it within 10 days after the election.
