Kiwanis Reservation Area is nestled in the picturesque Elena Gallegos Picnic Area. It is an outdoor facility with a sheltered picnic area that can accommodate up to 250 people. It is outfitted with 3 large coal grills; a recreation area with a volleyball net and a horseshoe pit; running water; electricity; restrooms; and access to the Elena Gallegos trails. This facility is available year-round.

There are 40 designated parking spaces for this area, including limited handicap access.

Kiwanis Reservation Area is an outdoor facility with a sheltered picnic area that can accommodate up to 250 people with 11 tables, 28.5” wide and 95” long. It is outfitted with 3 large coal grills; a recreation area with a volleyball net and a horseshoe pit; running water; electricity (a single outlet – bring an extension cord if needed); restrooms (pit toilets); and access to the Elena Gallegos trails. This facility is available year-round. Adjoining area has round cement tables nestled within the trees and a small fire circle with informal seating (fire restrictions may apply).
When can I book? Plan ahead as demand is high. Reservations can be made online beginning November 1st for the following calendar year. Create an account and book online at play.cabq.gov.
Double Shelter Reservation Area
This facility is also located in the Elena Gallegos Picnic Area and is perfect for small groups up to 50 people. The area offers two picnic tables, two coal grills, electricity, and is located near restroom facilities and trailheads. It also features a large amphitheater that is a popular area for school groups, public events and presentations. The facility is available year-round.

Carolino Canyon Reservation Area
This 40-acre day use facility is nestled in the juniper-pinon forests of the East Mountains. It is located 9.5 miles south of I-40 on NM Highway 337. Take exit 175 on I-40 and head south until you see the signs for the facility. The area can accommodate up to 250 people and provides 2 separate picnic areas.

Upper Picnic Area
The upper picnic area has a rustic shelter with a fireplace, tree-shaded tables, grills, restrooms, electricity and water. The area provides universal access with a paved nature trail.
Lower Picnic Area
The lower picnic area is just right for company picnics and extended family gatherings. It has a large shelter and shaded tables. Restrooms, water, and electricity are available.
Playing Field
A playing field is available for volleyball, tetherball, and/or horseshoes. It is available on a first-come, first-serve basis or shared with other users.
Season
The facility is available May through September. The 2023 season can be booked beginning November 1, 2022.
