Boca Negra Horseman's Complex

The Boca Negra Horseman's Complex is a facility located southwest of Boca Negra Petroglyph National Monument.

COVID-19 UPDATE (12/2/2020): In accordance with the current Public Health Order, the Boca Negra Horseman's Complex is open at 25 percent capacity. Please do your part to limit the spread of COVID-19 by staying home as much as possible, wearing a mask and social distancing when you must go out, and washing your hands often.

The facility is situated at the base of the Volcano Cones that lie to the west of Albuquerque.  Dramatic views of the Sandia Mountains and Rio Grande Valley add immensely to the atmosphere of the complex.


All of the facilities at the complex are open to the public and are free of charge.  Facilities for large groups and special events are available for reservations.

Public facilities include:

  • Two 200x300 foot arenas (the south arena is equipped with an announcing stand and seating that can accommodate up to 150 people)
  • Three miles of jumps (including one water jump)
  • A 60 foot round corral located at the base of the volcano cones for free-range riding
  • A clubhouse equipped with a full kitchen, tables, chairs, restrooms, and meeting facilities 4 Public corrals (with water) for overnight horse accommodations
  • A horseshoe pit

Take I-40 west to Unser, get off on North Unser, and drive past Boca Negra Petroglyph National Monument until Molten Rock Street. At Molten Rock, turn left. Drive down Molten Rock until 81st Street. At 81st Street, turn left, drive for approximately a quarter mile, and the sign for the facilities will appear on the right side of the street.
