Spring is in full swing, Albuquerque,

April has brought fresh energy and meaningful progress across our city. From expanding housing and investing in neighborhood spaces to supporting local businesses and celebrating our shared history, Albuquerque continues to move forward together.

We are making important strides in housing and community investment. We broke ground on West Mesa Ridge, bringing new housing opportunities to the westside, and celebrated the start of the South Broadway and Mountain View Community Garden, creating a shared space where neighbors can gather, grow food, and build stronger connections. These projects reflect our commitment to supporting both stable housing and healthy, vibrant neighborhoods.

We also strengthened public safety leadership with the City Council’s confirmation of Chief Cecily Barker as Albuquerque’s Chief of Police. With more than two decades of experience serving our city, Chief Barker brings steady leadership and a strong focus on community-based policing as we continue working to keep Albuquerque safe.

April also marked new energy in our local economy and community spaces. At the Sunport, Laguna Burger and Frank’s Chicken & Waffles are now open, offering a warm Albuquerque welcome to travelers and residents alike. Downtown, the opening of the Growers’ Market signals the return of a favorite tradition, bringing fresh food, local vendors, and neighbors together each week.

We also took time to celebrate Albuquerque’s 320th birthday in Old Town honoring a city founded in 1706 and shaped by generations of cultures, traditions, and community pride.

And during Mayor’s Day of Volunteerism, residents across Albuquerque stepped up to support their neighborhoods, showing once again that the strength of our city comes from the people who care for it every day.

From growing neighborhoods to local traditions to community service, April is a reminder of the many ways we are building a stronger Albuquerque together.
