Hello Albuquerque,

Summer’s off to a hot start in the city—not just in temperature, but in energy and momentum.

Right now, Albuquerque is showing what progress looks like. Crime is down across the board. Homicides are down 26 percent, auto theft is down 44 percent, and overall property crime is down 29 percent compared to this time last year. These are the lowest crime rates we’ve seen in more than a decade.

At the same time, we’re investing in what matters. We’re expanding the Gateway Network to support people experiencing homelessness, reopening key community spaces, and creating new opportunities for families across our city.

One example is the Jack Candelaria Community and Boxing Center. Now fully renovated and reopened, it’s a one-of-a-kind place that continues to shape the next generation of champions—both in and out of the ring.

This Fourth of July, we invite everyone to Freedom Fourth at Balloon Fiesta Park. It’s one of the biggest and best Independence Day celebrations in the Southwest. Come out for the food, music, and fireworks, and celebrate everything that makes Albuquerque special.

While we celebrate, we also have to stay safe. With the heat and dry conditions, fire danger in the Bosque is very real. Fires, fireworks, and smoking are strictly prohibited in Open Space. We’ve stepped up patrols, but we need your help to keep our open spaces protected.

The momentum is real, and the signs of Albuquerque’s comeback are all around us. Let’s keep showing up, celebrating together, and moving forward as One Albuquerque.

Sincerely,

Mayor Tim Keller
