Options to and from the Albuquerque International Sunport are again on the rise, most recently with Southwest Airlines’ announcement of expanded service from Austin, Texas. The airline, which currently offers weekend-only options from Austin, is expanding to daily offerings beginning August 6.

“We are thrilled to announce this expanded service to the Sunport,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “This daily non-stop service from Austin opens new doors for economic development and tourism with the live music capitol of the world, and continues our efforts to build a gateway to New Mexico.”

“We are excited to see Southwest continuing to expand their offerings in the Albuquerque market,” said Nyika Allen, Director of Aviation for the City of Albuquerque. “We hope this daily service allows visitors more flexibility when traveling to and from the Sunport and brings more investment opportunities to Albuquerque and New Mexico.”

Southwest’s expansion to daily service provides more flexibility and business connectivity for those traveling to and from Austin and surrounding areas. Tickets for Austin service may be purchased at www.southwest.com.

The Sunport has seen consistent growth in recent years, with an increase of nearly eight percent in passenger traffic in 2018. New Mexico tourism also grew for the seventh straight year. Last month, the Sunport announced service to Chihuahua, Mexico, it’s second international destination announcement in recent months, adding to the first true international service in nearly a decade.
