Opportunities to Provide Community Input on APD Chief Search

Mayor Keller outlines opportunities to provide input on the new APD Chief search

May 5, 2019

Residents are encouraged to provide input to city leaders about the search for a permanent Chief of the Albuquerque Police Department. There are several ways to provide input, including submitting online comments or attending community meetings and listening sessions throughout the city.

In partnership with APD Forward, a community coalition advocating for reforms at APD, there will be a listening session about the Chief search on Saturday, May 19 at the Albuquerque Convention Center (time TBD).

“We’re reaching out to the community and asking you to weigh in on your police department and leadership,” stated Mayor Tim Keller. “We encourage neighborhood leaders, local businesses and folks from all walks of life to come together as we work to tackle crime from all sides.”

All six Community Policing Councils will also devote time during the next three weeks to discuss the search for a permanent Chief, and options for providing input. The Councils are run by residents living in each of APD’s Area Commands. In addition to learning about the Chief search, residents are encouraged to find out more about participating in their Community Policing Council.
