May 22, 2025

Today, three outstanding people were honored for their service, compassion, and leadership during the City’s One Albuquerque and Volunteer of the Month awards ceremony. Each awardee was recognized for bringing something unique to their work, from innovative problem-solving to quiet acts of compassion and tireless service to others.

The recipients for April/May 2025 include:

  • One Albuquerque Award:
    • Victoria Tena – Zoning Plans Examiner at City of Albuquerque. Recognized for going above and beyond her normal duties to resolve a resident’s permit issue.
    • Bridget Vail – Volunteer at Lovelace Health System. Recognized for nearly 40 years of service, including founding a clothing closet for emergency room patients.
  • Volunteer Award:
    • Jonah Jackson – Community Volunteer. Recognized for volunteering to support local causes including food security, youth mentorship, and LGBTQ+ pride.

The monthly awards highlight those who go above and beyond in their roles, whether by stepping outside their official duties to help a resident in need, offering decades of care to medical patients, or using personal experience as a foundation for giving back.

“These honorees reflect the best of Albuquerque,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Their stories remind us that everyday actions, when done with heart, can make a lasting difference in the lives of others.”

“It’s been a pleasure volunteering at Lovelace, and I hope I can do it a little longer,” said One Albuquerque Award winner Bridget Vail. “You meet the nicest people when you volunteer, and I would love to for more people to join.”
