Multiple Volunteers Honored for Bettering City
Award ceremony recognizes personal capacity for good.
On Thursday Mayor Tim Keller recognized three exceptional people and a collection of partnering groups with the Volunteer of the Month and One Albuquerque Awards, celebrating their dedication to and impact in the City.
The following community members were praised for their commitment and compassion in initiatives like increasing the walkability of neighborhoods, caring for people at life’s end and offering support to our most vulnerable residents.
- Volunteer of the Month Award recipients:
- June – Zaireth Powers of Corus Hospice for providing connection and care to people approaching death.
- July – Chantelle Martinez of Blessed and Beautiful for leading efforts to help victims of abuse and poverty.
- August – Martin Richardson of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central New Mexico for supporting kids and expanding youth programs citywide.
- One Albuquerque Award recipients:
- Alleyway Activation and Walking School Bus partners for making our streets and alleys more welcoming, safe and pleasant to walk through.
These awardees demonstrate the value of volunteerism in creating a strong and connected city. From assisting people experiencing hardship to promoting healthy lifestyles and improving our neighborhoods, their efforts highlight the various ways one person can make a lasting difference for thousands.
“The kindness of people across Albuquerque is not talked about enough,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “These volunteers deserve recognition and offer a great example of how much good each of us is capable of.”
“We’ve come together because we are very passionate about kids and our community, and also appreciate the fact that we have this wonderful city we call home; we’re trying to beautify it one alleyway at a time,” said Sandra Perea, Elder Homestead Neighborhood Association president, D6 Coalition vice president, and Walking School Bus conductor.
Albuquerque believes strongly in connecting people with meaningful opportunities to serve their community. Through partnerships with various departments and outside organizations, the City offers countless ways for anyone to make a difference.
