Mayor Tim Keller Names Esteban Aguilar, Jr. as City Attorney

Aguilar brings more than a decade of experience to advocate for the people of Albuquerque.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller today appointed Esteban (Steve) Aguilar, Jr. to be Albuquerque’s new City Attorney. Aguilar joins the Keller administration with considerable experience in private practice with the firm founded with his father, Aguilar and Aguilar, P.C. Throughout his career, Aguilar has been a dedicated advocate for the people of Albuquerque and will bring that commitment to City Hall.

“I’m pleased to appoint Steve to represent the people of Albuquerque as City Attorney,” stated Mayor Keller. “He is a seasoned litigator with a great deal of experience in law enforcement and non-law enforcement issues. As a lifetime New Mexican, he understands the issues facing our city and will be critical to helping us enact our vision for a safe, inclusive, and innovative city.”

Esteban Aguilar, Jr. joins the City of Albuquerque as City Attorney after more than a decade with the firm founded with his father, Aguilar & Aguilar, P.C. As a partner, Mr. Aguilar represented clients in general civil practice, including business contracts, constitutional rights cases, medical and dental malpractice, among others. He serves on numerous boards, including the Board of Directors for the Center for Civic Values and the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Aguilar earned his law degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law and is a member of the State Bar of New Mexico. Mr. Aguilar is also admitted to the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico and has been recognized with the Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent Rating. He completed his undergraduate degree at UNM with a degree in communications and journalism, during which he served as the Student Body Vice President.
