Mayor Keller Launches Affordable ABQ to Help Families Save and Thrive

One-stop hub for cost-saving programs and a new push to bring fresh, affordable, local food to every neighborhood.

September 08, 2025

Following through from his State of the City address, Mayor Tim Keller announced details of Affordable ABQ, a commitment to affordability, equity, and community resilience in Albuquerque.

“We’ve put real work into making services affordable and we’re seeing real results to ease the financial burden on working families,” Mayor Keller said.

To help residents manage rising prices, the city has a plan to partner with local growers to get fresh, affordable food into underserved neighborhoods, freeze fees on family-friendly programs—from the zoo to swim lessons—and expand free access to public services like gyms, pet healthcare, and public transit.

Mayor Keller also announced the launch of Affordable ABQ, a new one-stop hub designed to connect Albuquerque families with cost-saving services, programs, and activities. The online hub makes it easier than ever for residents to find resources that lower household expenses while strengthening community connections.

Affordable ABQ highlights free and low-cost programs in child and adult education, child care, transportation, health, food, recreation, and more. Families can now access information about preschool and early learning options, free summer and afterschool meals for all children, affordable and free health services, free transit programs, and dozens of free activities including library events, museums, community centers, and parks — all in one easy-to-navigate site.

Mayor Keller also announced a new legislative initiative aimed at improving access to affordable, fresh, locally produced food across the city, with a particular focus on underserved neighborhoods and food deserts. The Mayor previously hired a City Local Agriculture Community Coordinator to ensure this work in maintained as a focus by the City.

The legislation will:

  • Expand partnerships with local farmers and growers’ markets to bring fresh produce into more communities.
  • Provide incentives for grocery and corner stores to carry affordable, locally sourced products.
  • Support EBT doubling programs so families can stretch food budgets further.
  • Target investments into neighborhoods with limited access to healthy food options.

With the launch of Affordable ABQ and the push for new food access legislation, Albuquerque continues to advance its commitment to affordability, equity, and community resilience.
