Mayor Keller Issues Statement on Police Injured in the Line of Duty.

Aug. 19, 2021

This morning, four Albuquerque police officers were injured in the line of duty. Two officers are in the hospital, receiving emergency care after being shot while responding to a robbery call in Northeast Albuquerque. Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller issued the following statement:

Our officers put their lives on the line every single day to protect our community. Despite these risks they take on when they’re sworn in, they step up anyway. It’s a profound act of service. When they are injured or worse in the line of duty, that pain ripples through our entire community.

Police families should never have to receive the calls they’re getting today. We’re asking our entire community to have their backs and the backs of every officer who worked to find the suspects and bring them to justice after this senseless act of violence. Liz and I join families around New Mexico in praying for the safety and recovery of the injured officers and for their families.

We thank AFR for their quick response and the lifesaving care they provided on the scene. We are grateful to our law enforcement partners around the metro region and state who have come together without hesitation and jumped in to help with this investigation.

After an extensive search, APD has detained all of the suspects and is processing the scene.

Mayor Tim Keller and APD Chief Harold Medina are now at UNM Hospital.

APD asks that anyone with information on the situation please call 242-COPS, and upload any related photo or video evidence to: https://albuquerquepdnm.evidence.com/axon/citizen/public/juantaboandlomas
