Mayor Keller Announces New International Service From Albuqerque, NM to Chihuahua, Mexico.

ABQ International Sunport builds avenue for tourism and business.

February 8, 2019

Just three months after bringing international flights back to the Sunport, Mayor Tim Keller and Volaris Airlines announced today new, non-stop service between the Albuquerque International Sunport and Chihuahua, Mexico. Together, these flights make the Sunport truly international for the first time in nearly a decade.

“We are strengthening Albuquerque’s international connections. Weekly, non-stop service to Chihuahua opens opportunities for our residents in economic development and tourism,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Whether you are taking a vacation or growing your business, it’s easier than ever to fly in and out of Albuquerque.”

Volaris, Mexico’s largest low-cost carrier, will begin twice-weekly service on June 18 and will allow travelers the opportunity to take full advantage of an evening in Chihuahua or connect to Mexico City.

“We are delighted that Volaris has come to the Albuquerque market to test various routes to and from Mexico as fast, affordable option for New Mexicans,” said Nyika Allen, Director of Aviation for the City of Albuquerque. “Especially for our Mexican-American residents from the State of Chihuahua, this is a welcomed and important addition to Volaris’ portfolio here in Albuquerque.”

The Sunport has seen growth in recent years, with an increase of nearly eight percent in passenger traffic for 2018. New Mexico tourism also grew for the seventh straight year.
