City Partners with Southeast Albuquerque Success Center to Provide Albuquerque Residents with Job Ready Skills

Program Provides Certificate Programs to Underserved Communities.

Mayor Tim Keller, City Councilor Pat Davis, and Southeast Albuquerque Success Center (SEASC) Executive Director Michael Jefferson are announcing a partnership to provide high-skill job training and certificate programs to Albuquerque residents.

 SEASC, established in 2018, provides workforce development in underserved communities. The SEASC is an approved training provider with Tech Hire New Mexico, a Workforce Connection Program. SEASC’s software development and hardware management training boot camps prepare workers for three career pathways: Information Technology (IT); Electronics/Computer Technology; and Service Provider. Each pathway is grounded in hands-on learning, externships with real-world experience and, upon completion of the program, an industry recognized certification.

“Strengthening Albuquerque’s workforce, especially in underserved communities, helps knock down barriers to obtaining high-level job skills and gaining foothold in the skilled workforce,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “This partnership creates opportunity for Albuquerque residents and helps employers find talented workers. Together, we’re building an economy that works for everyone.”

The SEASC is exactly the kind of community-based program, led by people of color from the community, that we should be supporting. said City Councilor Pat Davis. “SEASC’s program provides opportunities for individuals to find a path to well-paying jobs that are relevant in today’s economy.”

“Inspired by the words of E. Wesley Hill people must be at the center of their own transformation, the SEASC provides individuals facing skill barriers to gainful employment the opportunity to gain skills needed by local employers,” said Michael Jefferson, Executive Director, SEASC.

SEASC’s IT curriculum is sourced from the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), a non-profit trade association, issuing professional certifications globally for the information technology industry. The SEASC’s Service Provider and Electronics curriculum is from Electronics Technicians Association (ETA) a not-for-profit professional association, accredited by the International Certification Accreditation Council (ICAC).

SEASC courses help workers obtain certification in a range of high-demand, growing fields, from specialized customer service, to technical maintenance, information technology, gaming, fiber optics, and more.

The SEASC focuses training on students who are:

  • Living within households having annual incomes below the Federal Poverty Level
  • Individuals between the ages of 17 – 42
  • Minority populations especially Native American, African American and Asian
  • Heads of households with 4 or more children under age of eight years old
  • Veterans
  • Single parent families
  • Youth transitioning out of foster care
  • Persons with physical disabilities including HIV/AIDs
  • Persons with a history of incarceration
  • Victims of domestic violence
  • The City’s Economic Development Department is working to build an economy that works for everyone.
  • Part of that mission is investing in workforce training. By supporting programs like the SEASC, the City is providing opportunities to underserved populations and investing in providing employers with a skilled and available workforce.
