City of Albuquerque to offer Warm Meals to Kids over Winter Break

Supper Meals Program kicks off December 21

December 21, 2018

The Department of Family and Community Services is once again offering the Winter Supper Meals Program for all children ages 1-18 at 28 After School Program locations throughout the City. The meals are available to all youth, regardless if the child is enrolled in a City program. Hot meals will be served on December 21, 26 – 28, 31 and January 2-4. Actual meal times vary based on location.

During winter break many children do not have access to a hot meal. For the past four years, the City of Albuquerque has stepped in to fill the gap during winter break and provide hot meals for children in need.

“The meals program enables our kids to continue healthy eating habits throughout the winter break,” stated Mayor Tim Keller. “For some kids this is the only warm meal they may get each day and we are especially grateful to be meeting a critical need in the community.”

The Winter Supper Meals Program is designed to ensure children receive a hot meal before they head home for the evening after a long day at school. Approximately 1,200 meals are served each day through the winter program.
