City of Albuquerque Implements New Rules for Fiber Internet Companies
Starting today, the City of Albuquerque is putting a new set of rules into effect for all internet service providers installing fiber infrastructure. These regulations are designed to continue to hold companies accountable for how they conduct construction work in our neighborhoods and ensure safer, cleaner, and more organized projects.
The updated requirements include providing proof that residents were notified before work begins, mandatory identification on all contractor vehicles and outer clothing, reduced work hours for construction, strict deadlines to resolve complaints, and stronger enforcement actions including fines and stop-work orders for violations. The full rule is attached to this email.
“We support better internet in Albuquerque, but we’ve added new rules to tackle the challenges and make sure it’s done right,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Starting today, these rules will help ensure companies communicate clearly, work safely, and fix what they break — no shortcuts, no excuses, or else they will face fines or be forced to stop work until they get it right.”
The City’s Departments of Planning and Municipal Development, along with the Broadband Office and the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission, will continue to monitor and enforce these standards closely. Providers that fail to comply may face fines or stop-work orders until issues are resolved.
Residents are encouraged to report any construction problems directly to the internet providers using the contact numbers listed on project notices. If further help is needed, they can also contact the City’s 311 service.
