City Hosts Fall Volunteer Fest
Event provides guidance and connections.
The Office of Civic Engagement hosted its Fall Volunteer Fest supporting City departments, nonprofits, and the larger community.
Over 200 people attended to find volunteer opportunities from more than 35 departments and local organizations. Options included helping animals, working with children through Explora and ABQ Reads, and offering support to vulnerable residents.
The October 24 event included workshops on using the One ABQ Volunteers website, support for nonprofits, and a live recording of a panel for the "ABQ Accent" podcast. Attendees were interviewed by One ABQ Media, participated in interactive games, and signed up for volunteer activities. The Office of Civic Engagement reported 128 new registrants on the Volunteers platform.
The One ABQ Volunteers website boasts over 32,000 registered volunteers and several hundred ongoing opportunities with City departments and nonprofits. Volunteering is a powerful way for a person or group to make lasting impact.
“As a direct result of the event, nine community members expressed genuine interest in volunteering, and one has already taken the initiative to adopt two bus stops as of this morning,” said Dwayne Baker, ABQ Ride volunteer coordinator. “For me, that represents another bridge built between ABQRIDE and our community — forged through shared purpose and understanding.”
“Neighbors turning compassion into action through volunteerism really strengthens our community,” said Office of Civic Engagement Manager Dionna Arellano. “Every hour given helps build a more connected, resilient city. Events like Volunteer Fest bring people together around the shared goal of making Albuquerque better for everyone.”
Albuquerque is committed to connecting residents with meaningful opportunities. Through partnerships with various departments and community organizations, the City offers numerous ways to make a difference.
