The Princess Jeanne Neighborhood Awarded ABQ NeighborWoods Grant for 100 Trees

May 5, 2023

Albuquerque City Councilor Renée Grout, District 9, is working with ABQ NeighborWoods volunteers to plant 100 street trees in the Princess Jeanne neighborhood on Saturday, May 6, starting at 9 a.m. Another 100 trees will be given away at the Jeanne Bellamah Park on Saturday, May 13, at 10 a.m. for members of the neighborhood to plant on their own.

ABQ NeighborWoods has collaborated with the City of Albuquerque, the US Forest Service, NM State Forestry, local tree growers, local landscape architects, neighborhood leaders, and Tree New Mexico to provide funding, training, and consulting professionals to plant over 1600 trees in nine neighborhoods over the last two and half years.

Tree New Mexico has been operating for over 33 years and has helped to plant over 1 million trees across our state.

“Trees have an incredible impact on a neighborhood,” Councilor Grout said. “They reduce home energy bills, increase property values, and restore residents’ pride in their neighborhood. I’m looking forward to watching these trees grow and seeing how they will transform this great neighborhood.”

The May 6 tree planting will begin with volunteers gathering at Jeanne Bellamah Park at 9 a.m. After a briefing, volunteers will fan out to homes that have adopted trees, where they will dig holes in yards that have been prepared with utility lines marked, and plant trees selected by landscape architects to fit the space chosen.

Neighborhoods that would like to bring the ABQ NeighborWoods program to your neighborhood, please contact Tree New Mexico at 505 265-4554, so your neighborhood can be considered for future plantings!
