The McDuffie-Twin Parks Traffic Calming Study

Information about the McDuffie/Twin Parks Traffic Calming study.

Background

The McDuffie-Twin Parks Traffic Calming Study was initiated by City Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn after numerous concerns from residents about crashes, speeding, and cut through traffic happening in the McDuffie-Twin Parks neighborhood.

Normally a study focuses on a more concentrated area, but the Councilor believed that the problems occurring at the intersection of Washington and Constitution were part of a wider scope. With funding from her office, she has asked that the study focus on the wider area of Carlisle to Washington and Constitution to Lomas.

Wilson & Company, Inc. engineers have completed and submitted the final results of their traffic study for the McDuffie-Twin Parks neighborhoods. The study was conducted along Washington Street, Constitution Avenue, Morningside Drive, Avenida Del Sol, Montclaire Drive, Mackland Avenue, and Solano Drive. The purpose of the study was to collect and analyze traffic volumes, speeds, and conduct a safety analysis.

The project will now move forward to the design phase. The project was awarded state capital outlay funding of $450K to begin improvements.

The study identified different alternatives to increase safety along these roadways which include pedestrian crossings, striping, traffic circles, neckdowns/bulbouts, and speed bumps.
