AFR launches campaign to educate the public on legal vs Illegal fireworks during Independence Day holiday.
During the month of June, The Albuquerque Fire Marshal's Office (FMO) will partner with 311 to disseminate this year's 4th of July flier educating the public on which fireworks are legal vs. illegal. AFR will also utilize social media sites to post firework safety messages. The goal is to educate the public on the proper use of legal fireworks, and to address which fireworks are illegal to use within the City of Albuquerque. The message will also address the consequences when someone chooses to use illegal fireworks within the city limits.
Due to the extreme drought conditions, Firework Education Units (FEU) will be strategically placed in specific areas in and around the Bosque, foothills, and other open space areas. These teams will patrol these areas and will monitor for illegal firework activity and for any other suspicious activity in these areas. APD will assign four units to assist the Fire Marshal's office during these patrols and to be readily available to respond with the FEU's if necessary. Cease and desist orders or citations will be issued for illegal firework activity when appropriate.
