Sunset Memorial Park, Inc. requests a modification to their air quality permit in Application #0800-M5

The applicant is requesting a modification to Permit #0800-M4-1AR with the following changes:

  1. The applicant proposes to replace an existing human crematory, Unit #2, with a charge rate of 200 pounds per hour (lbs/hr) and a total burner natural gas maximum heat input rating of 2.2 MMBtu/hr with a new human crematory with a charge rate of 225 lbs/hr and a total burner natural gas maximum heat input rating of 3.0 MMBtu/hr.
  2. The applicant proposes to replace an existing animal crematory, Unit #6, with a charge rate of 75 lbs/hr and a total burner natural gas maximum heat input rating of 3.0 MMBtu/hr with a new animal crematory with a charge rate of 340 lbs/hr and a total burner natural gas maximum heat input rating of 4.5 MMBtu/hr.
  3. The applicant proposes to replace an existing animal crematory, Unit #7, with a charge rate of 250 lbs/hr and a total burner natural gas maximum heat input rating of 4.5 MMBtu/hr with a new animal crematory with a charge rate of 340 lbs/hr and a total burner natural gas maximum heat input rating of 4.5 MM Btu/hr.
  4. The applicant proposes to correct the currently permitted unit numbers to reflect Sunset Memorial’s established unit numbering system. Unit #1, Unit #2 and Unit #6 remain the same, but permitted Unit #3 is now Unit #4, permitted Unit #4 is now Unit #5, permitted Unit #7 is now Unit #3, permitted Unit #8 is now Unit #7, and permitted Unit #5 is now Unit #8.
  5. The applicant proposes to relocate Unit #5 (was Unit #4) within the same building, provide lead (Pb) and hazardous air pollutant (HAP) emission calculations for all units, and correct the annual hours of operation and emission calculations for all existing and new crematory units to reflect 5840 hours of operation per year.
  6. The applicant proposes to correct the annual emission calculations for the emergency engine, Unit #8 (was Unit #5), from 200 hours per year to 100 hours per year based on the permitted limit.
