SWAT SITUATION: 100 Block of Tyrone Avenue

Albuquerque SWAT officers spent more than six hours attempting to get a suspected shooter to surrender peacefully.

Officers were called to the 100 block of Tyrone Avenue NW around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26th. A caller reported that a woman was suffering from a gunshot wound nearby. Officers arrived and believed the suspect was barricaded inside a travel trailer which is located in the back yard of the caller's property. They requested the assistance of the K9 Unit. The woman was taken to the hospital and is currently in critical, but stable condition.

Around 6:30 a.m. the situation became a SWAT call out, and Pleasant Avenue and Tyrone Avenues were both closed from 2nd Street to Carlton Street.

The SWAT team and officers worked diligently, for more than six hours, offering the suspect multiple resources in an attempt to get him to surrender peacefully.

Just after 12 p.m. investigators entered the travel trailer and found the suspect deceased. The suspect's cause of death is currently under investigation. No officers fired their weapons and it does not appear that officer's actions caused the suspect's death.

The suspect's name will be released after family is notified of his death.

Pleasant avenue was reopened around 4 p.m.

Outside agencies were also called in to assist with this investigation.

We would like to thank residents and neighbors in the area for their patience and cooperation throughout this incident.
