Drunk Driver Crashes Vehicle and Leaves the Scene

Brian Williams was arrested and charged with several DWI related charges after causing a crash and leaving the scene of an accident.

Brian Williams was arrested and charged with Aggravated DWI, Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Fleeing from Police.

At about 10:15 p.m., Albuquerque Police Department Southeast Area Command officers were dispatched to the intersection of Eubank Blvd and Central Ave in reference to a multi-vehicle crash.  Officers received information from the victims of the crash that a black Jeep SUV which caused the crash was seen leaving the scene with heavy front end damage.

Due to several citizens calling police and reporting this same vehicle was seen driving recklessly near Juan Tabo with the bumper hanging off, this lead officers to the vehicle which was located at Singing Arrow Park.  Officers arrived to the park and located the same description vehicle crashed in the park.  A citizen reported seeing the driver get out of the vehicle and run through the park into a neighborhood. Several officers went looking for the driver while others stayed with the crashed vehicle which was now on fire.  The Albuquerque Fire Department was called to extinguish the vehicle fire.

Officers then located Brain Williams in the 500 block of Eugene CT SE standing on the side of a residence.  He followed the commands of the officers and was taken into custody without incident.  When officers started to escort him back to the park they observed he was extremely intoxicated by the odor of alcohol and not being able to balance very well.

Williams was booked on Aggravated DWI, Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Fleeing from Police.

We want to thank all the citizens who took the time to call police and provide the information they did.  This is what helped police make this arrest possible and remove another drunk driver off the road.  No one was seriously injured in the crash.  Williams has a prior DWI in 2009.

Thank you to The Albuquerque Fire Department and Albuquerque Ambulance for their continued assistance everyday.
